Jonathan Cheung is a Managing Director at Transworld M&A Advisors and Exit Factor, where he helps business owners thoughtfully exit the companies they’ve spent years—often decades—building. He advises founders of both Main Street and lower middle-market businesses across a wide range of industries, guiding them through valuation, positioning, and transaction strategy with clarity and care.
Jonathan’s approach is shaped not only by his background in finance, but by personal experience. He comes from a multigenerational family business background where, like many owners, the businesses were never sold—they were simply closed. Seeing the impact that had on employees, customers, and family legacy deeply influenced his mission: to help owners transition their businesses properly so what they built can continue to serve others long after they step away.
With 20+ years of experience in valuation, private equity due diligence, consulting, and entrepreneurship, Jonathan brings a disciplined, data-driven approach to every engagement. He began his career at KPMG, conducting complex valuation analyses for Fortune 500 clients. He advised private equity firms at Altman Solon, conducting due diligence across the investment lifecycle—from market screening and acquisition analysis to value creation and exit strategy. He later held corporate leadership roles managing large portfolios, including a $500M book of business at McKesson. Additionally, he has founded and operated businesses across franchising, manufacturing, SaaS, and consumer products, giving him firsthand empathy for the challenges entrepreneurs face. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder and holds a B.S. in Business Administration from UC Berkeley. Jonathan blends institutional financial rigor with an operator’s perspective, helping owners maximize value while preserving what matters most—their legacy.
